Dr. Gregg Courand
Dr. Gregg Courand is focused on capacity development – for individuals, organizations, and more broadly, change agents. All methods are unified under a cybernetic, socio-cognitive, systems, and risk-analysis synthesis. He has a strong focus on identifying and bringing likely future demands, disruption, and opportunities into present operations.
For individuals, he has developed methods and technology to support reflection on and change in life-critical habits. For organizations, his methods illuminate critical unknowns and advance current aims (progress), support detecting and managing disturbances (resilience), and consciously evolve/influence toward likely and significant future landscapes (fitness).
For change agents, he works with the client to implement tools to embed powerful, practical learning strategies within practices – planning templates to move things forward, illuminate what works and clarify what matters, and invite partnership for shared impact. The work balances finding and fitting into the future, with imagining, designing and creating a desired future – collective intelligence and exploration create and transform ecosystems.
His education includes electrical and systems engineering, philosophy of science, systems economics, decision science, and artificial intelligence (PhD) ... along with extensive background in cybernetics, intelligent knowledge-based architectures, sociology, institutions and structuration theory, cultural anthropology, critical theory, developmental learning, organizational intervention, as well as Jesuit theology and Buddhist literature.
Dr. Courand is drawn to and has profound respect for the mission, vision, and staff of Lineage Project. He believes deeply in the value of the students’ lives, and this work on behalf of their future prospects. His own mindfulness practice, and commitment to compassion (Tonglen practice) have led him to explore with Lineage the possibility of treating disturbances in the classroom – manifestations of underlying trauma – as moments of grace.
