Begin 2024 on a bright note with this affirmation written by a Lineage student in Together, We Grow—a social-emotional learning + wellness program at an all-girls high school in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.

As we enter a new year, we’re feeling grateful to you—our community—for all the ways you make Lineage’s work possible.

Mission + Vision

Founded in 1999, Lineage Project teaches trauma-sensitive mindfulness to young people (12 - 24 years old) and adult staff inside NYC’s criminal legal, foster care, education, shelter, immigration, psychiatric, and school suspension systems—fostering embodied awareness and collective care, and breaking down race/class barriers to mindfulness education. Lineage is also beginning to build vocational pathways in the wellness field for our alumni.

Lineage Project’s vision is for young people—especially Black and brown young people inside/impacted by systems—to:

  1. Access free, simple, portable mindfulness tools that support inner + collective wellbeing;

  2. Learn about their brains, bodies, and nervous systems in ways that make sense to them, are attuned to/reflective of their lived experiences, and help them move through life with—whenever possible more ease, choice, joy, and capacity; and

  3. Experience a deep sense of belonging, support and care—particularly from the adults around them.
