WISDOM 2.0 NYC MINDFULNESS IN A WORLD ON FIRE

Mindfulness in a World on Fire Gabrielle Prisco and Coss Marte

During their panel Resiliency in a World on Fire Lineage’s Co-Executive Director Gabrielle Prisco and board member Coss Marte will explored how both harm and inner resourcing can be patterned and called up in our bodies, minds, and spirits—and why they are so committed to Lineage’s work in the world.

Coss talked about how mindfulness helped him cope while incarcerated and in solitary confinement, and Gabrielle shared how her experiences as an attorney for children in Family Court and her personal experiences of loss and grief brought her to Lineage.

More speakers include: Jon Kabat-Zinn (Lineage Advisory Council Member), Anderson Cooper, and mindfulness teachers and activists from Ukraine and elsewhere.

Lineage’s Co-ED, Gabrielle Prisco, is a finalist for the 2021 David Prize

We are thrilled that Gabrielle is one of 21 finalists for The David Prize—"a celebration of individuals and ideas to create a better, brighter New York City.” If Gabrielle wins, she will use the prize money ($200,000 in no-strings attached funding) and visibility to catalyze the launch of The Core Collective: a holistic “one-stop” community center for young people and shared home for a curated group of smaller NYC youth nonprofits. Throughout this process, Gabrielle’s heart, mind, and spirit have been blown away by the other finalists’ creativity, bold vision, and commitment to making our city better.

Mindfulness and Rehabilitation: Teaching Yoga and Meditation to Young Men in an Alternative to Incarceration Program provides vivid insight into how Lineage’s program helped justice-involved young men manage their anger, reduce reactivity, and cope with high levels of stress and anxiety, and therefore may reduce the likelihood of justice system re-involvement. Click here to read the article.
